Global trends for MBA programs.

August 28, 2018 Help MBA Online No comments , , , ,

After gathering some years of work practice and experiencing that I had already “hit bottom” in my business, I asked myself the following question: “What’s next?” I thought a lot about that idea for a few months and then I started considering the option of studying a postgraduate course and taking my profession to the next step.

I started looking for options and I find that business schools around the world remain in constant evolution to raise their quality. Learning from current trends is valuable to me and I suggest doing the same process to all those who are pondering the possibility of studying an MBA. Here I leave the world trends:

Executive MBA:

They are very demanded at the present time, their objective is to train professionals for the management of businesses or companies. They are aimed at people with some years of management experience, are excellent for managers, executives and managers who need to reinforce their knowledge.

The focus changes a little with respect to the MBA full time, because the students already have advanced notions about business management and are part-time. In my personal case, I don’t have managerial and directive experience, so from the start I knew it wasn’t the right choice for me.

One of my main fears is to leave the job. Will it cost Me to find one after the MBA? Will I be left behind? How will I survive without a steady salary? Are some of the thoughts that make me basilar to do a postgraduate.

And when I talked to other colleagues, I realized that many young people shared that fear. That’s why online MBA’s have taken power; You take the courses online, you can continue to work and study from your home, office or any country. Flexibility is attractive; However, thinking more deeply, I considered that aspects that are important to me are sacrificed.

For example, networking. Classmates and teachers become contacts and not in many places you have the opportunity to acquire such a wide and heterogeneous network of contacts. You also lose the discussion in class and I feel that knowing different points of view helps us to be more complete professionals with different perspectives.

Full-time programs are highly sought after by those who want to have the full experience. They allow to focus on the program at 100%, increasing the degree of collaboration and responsibility.

It is not only appropriate to acquire managerial or administrative knowledge. Aspects such as emotional intelligence, teamwork and critical thinking make it possible to shape innovative leaders and represent an added value at the professional level.  The 24/7 immersion of the full time makes the incrmento of these skills develop exponentially and are achieved in a shorter time.

This type of MBA allows to have an experiential study. Now some business schools have seen that they must implement what they learned and have opted to use the case method, where they solve real business problems. They also provide internships, consulting projects and international exchanges such as INCAE Business School to Silicon Valley, one of the schools that has caught my attention.

Within the full time mode, there are programs that allow to carry out concentrations. Organizations are suing professionals who assume leadership roles in specific areas and with such a program, I can boost my profession by developing management skills, but diferenciándome through a specialization.  (It’s like getting the best of two worlds in a single MBA!)

Would it please you to have the opportunity to internationalise your career? Now business schools are looking to have a global offer and are incorporating international experiences as a key component in their curriculum.

This makes it easier for students to acquire a network of international contacts and extended work opportunities at the global level. Multiculturalism in the course enriches the different perspectives and allows the comprehension of different realities and cultural contexts.

Added to this, many have agreements with other universities and could be a bridge to take courses in other continents and add value to our CV. In my personal case, I am employed by a transnational and I would like to continue developing my career in that area. Today it is very important to have an international orientation that allows us to develop in global markets.

These are the current trends, knowing them gives us more clarity when we make our decision on what program to study and provide tools for a more complete survey. In my case, networking, practical study and multicultural contact are aspects of weight that I will take into account at the time of the final decision, because I am unequivocal that they can really make a positive difference in the development of my professional life.

So before you follow an MBA it’s important that you consider following some tips:

Align your career

As tempting as the benefits of completing an MBA, you must have your career well defined and determine if you need to follow the course. This is important because the investment in time and money is considerable and should be carefully meditated. The alignment of your professional goals will also help you to better choose the type of MBA program that fits your needs. For example, if you are working in a multinational company and want to climb a management post, it is important that you find out about the master’s centers in business that your company considers most prestigious; Instead if you are an entrepreneur and want to run your own company, you could avoid the most expensive and prestigious schools and opt for something more economical but good quality.

Consider Online preparation

The option of on-line studies of MBA is becoming more and more popular, this due to the improvements related to the technology that makes possible the exchange of information on line, added to the ample number of benefits that offers this type of programs. One of the strengths of online preparation is the flexibility of schedules, which allows you to work and study simultaneously without having to waste time or money movilizándote to the center of Studies, in addition to rubbing with people from different parts of the World, which puts into practice the true concept of a global networking. This type of preparation adapts very well to self-taught people.

Perseverance much perseverance

Combining this type of preparation with work and personal relationships will require the maximum of your effort. Many MBA students do not have free time at all, so do not be discouraged that all this sacrifice is worthwhile. Watch out for stress that can seriously affect your health. I recommend you take vitamin supplements and follow a proper diet. Perseverance is the key to everything and always be aware of the reason why you have decided to undertake this great project.

Follow an MBA Full time or better one Part time

Leave the job to follow an MBA or follow it while you work? That’s the dilemma. According to Henry Mintzberg in his book managers not MBAs, he emphasizes the need to train executives who not only focus on the theory but also on the practice of administration, criticizes the formation of young students with little work experience in the world Real and suggests to focus training on the actual practice of administration and not just focus on science.

The fact of getting ready while you work gives you a better perspective and more use of the course, because among the classmates can share their work experiences and go enriched together. In addition the benefit of the knowledge acquired in the classrooms whether real or virtual can be put into practice for the good of the company.

If you have already completed an MBA or are thinking about studying it, we would love to know about your expectations or experiences. Leave me a comment at the end of this post.

Differences between an MBA and a specialized Master’s Degree

August 25, 2018 Help MBA Class No comments , , ,

Learn about the details that differentiate an MBA from a specialized master’s degree.

It is not the same to talk about an MBA than a specialized master’s degree. To remain prevailing in the face of the demands that the labour market constantly demands, it is essential not to be conformed with the undergraduate degree, but to continue preparing academically should you be clear about the difference between an MBA and a specialized master’s degree?

MBA vs. Specialized expertise

First of all you should know that a specialized master’s degree offers participants more punctual instructions to apply in the area where he works. While the MBA offers a broader range of knowledge, there are many issues with few complications. This is not ideal for individuals who want to stay and enhance their experiences within their area.

With regard to the comment made by Fausto García, former academic director of the MBA at IAE Business School in Argentina, specialized masteries flourish as a natural process. The maturity of the market requires the programs to be different from each other, offering a level of specificity that is becoming ever higher.

Long ago, there were only MBA’s as programs considered to form executives trained in business management. However, the same market transformation demands more punctual specializations, executives with specific trajectories.

The MBAs are programs that guarantee to the professional the necessary support to lead organizations, therefore enjoys a prestige of height in management superior to other programs.

How does specialization work?

To better understand specialization, the human resources area will be taken as an example. Within this area, there are diplomas such as labor relations, internal communication or coaching. However, masteries provide a “holistic view” of the entire human resources area.

What does a master’s offer do?

It allows you to focus on studies of a more specific branch of knowledge.

It will increase the likelihood of hiring you and getting more pay for your work.

For most, masteries represent the possibility of changing direction. A doctor can afford to do an MBA or a master’s degree in administration if you want to devote yourself to the management of hospital centers, for example.

What does an MBA offer you?

-International recognition
This university degree is highly demanded by employers all over the world.

-Practical Training
It’s something you can be sure of, from making economic observations to fieldwork, an MBA will make you study as much as working.

-Leadership Training
You can acquire techniques to lead and direct different types of projects, here you will be instructed to make directives and ensure that they are fulfilled.

This is perhaps one of the most particular benefits of this postgraduate. Not only in the courses will you find future leaders and business executives, but also many MBA’s run days where they will present you with different authorities of the business world and thus licensing with an extensive and solid portfolio of contacts.

How to know if “that of the MBA” is or not for You

The MBA is the name with which you know the postgraduate learning of a master in Business administration and, currently, it is one of the titles that more benefits can give to an individual in his professional development in this area.

Perhaps during his undergraduate studies and as he learns more about the place where he works, he once crossed with this type of MBA mastery that is totally different from the other postgraduate studies, thanks to his demand and unique focus on management issues. and economy.

This tends to be more common in businesses that are currently growing a lot, thinking about exporting, having international or multinational trades; Because they require prepared individuals who can know very well the risks and economic, financial and regulatory situations and, with this, make the most convenient decisions for their company, that is, what course they can take or which businesses they should accept or Reject.

That’s why subjects who want to have a career projection in this type of field can consider this option as an opportunity for growth and professional development.

What qualities are needed?

This can be a sufficiently specific program and oriented to the growth of certain skills that need to be encouraged for the administration and the businesses, so it is more advisable that an applicant for this postgraduate should have clear his post-MBA goals.

“This will help you plan how to achieve your degree and career path that you want to follow to complete the program. Applicants must be focused, motivated and have strong communication skills. They must also have leadership skills and work together, “indicated the expert Von Loesecke.

Existing MBA types

Although this training is usually grouped under the acronyms MBA, there are different modalities of courses:

  • MBA executive. They are made for executives who want to improve their training in business without leaving work. It is obligatory to have a university degree and to certify between 2 and 5 years of practice in executive positions.
  • MBA International. This program is organized so that the learning and the practices can be carried out in different countries. For this reason, an advanced level of languages must be accredited.
  • Full-time or partial MBA. Each student decides what charge workload can assume. You can also choose between in-person or distance mode.

Requirements needed to study an MBA

August 25, 2018 Help MBA Online No comments , , ,

As always, some of the issues that most concern students are the conditions of entry. In the case of the MBA, these are some of the requirements to be taken into account:

  • Have a university degree from your country of origin or a degree issued by the Institution of higher education.
  • Present a good academic record. He gets used to doing admission tests.
  • Accrediting professional experience. Preferably in executive positions.
  • Demonstrate a fluent English level. The TOEFL is one of the tests that are taken more into account.

In addition, it is recommended to provide the following documentation:

  • An updated resume. In relation to its presentation is as important as its content.
  • Two or three letters of recommendation. The cards are used to have a clearer view of the aspirant.
  • A letter of motivation. The student must write a text explaining why he longs to access the course.

From the beginning you have to make it clear: it is a postgraduate analysis that is not very economic but which, instead, can produce a good investment. But there are different points to consider when you look at the cost of an MBA, because it can change depending on the type of program:  whether it’s full-time, half-time or an EMBA.

Generally, on average, the cost of a full-time MBA can achieve more than $100,000, with annual tuition exceeding US $50000, excluding child support costs, if it is to develop this training at the international level.

In terms of costs in Colombia, on average for 2015, this may cost close to $45 million the full investment, this will depend on the institution that has been selected.

At present, the University of the Andes, the Universidad Javeriana, the university Sergio Arboleda, the Icesi, the Inalde and the EAFIT; They are several of the organizations that offer the program.

Most of them also operate and offer the various modalities that have already been mentioned. Therefore, anyone considering doing such an analysis should think about the opportunity cost, as most of these applicants will have to leave their job to be a full-time student.

However, to reduce some costs to the students of this program, there is a great diversity of entities and the same universities that offer financial aid and scholarships. Thus, “the most frequent feature of the scholarships is based on the merits and the type of scholarship proposed depends on each program. Most MBA programs offer this kind of scholarships especially for international students, “added seasoned CEO and General manager of the MBA Tour.

Of course, estimating an investment of this kind seems absurd and is not within the reach of any individual. Even, because this kind of study is much more common to think about doing it abroad. Thus, the most popular destinations for Latino students are the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Most (more than 51%) want to study in the United States. After completing their MBA program, students return to their home country to apply their new skills for growth and development.

Although it can be so expensive, this model of programs can bring you a sufficiently high benefit to your career: on the other hand, wage increases are relevant (to be calculated in more than 160%, according to an article in the Republic, which It will clearly help your financial situation and the possibility to quickly recover the investment made.

According to Peter Von Loesecke, CEO and general manager of the MBA Tour, he proposes that if you are interested in developing an MBA, it is more convenient to do the research on the topic: “You can start with the online search for General advice on MBA programs, as well as the specific search of the business schools of interest. The ‘ MBA Tour ‘ conferences are one of the excellent options for candidates to gather information, participating in the application workshops, the GMAT sessions, the MBA panels, presentations and more. “

An MBA is a diploma intended for executives and people already working who wish to open up to the international world.

MBA : definition

However, not all MBA candidates can, or will, take two years away from their professional activity.

For them, there is the remote MBA:

This training can be followed thanks to multimedia, without having to travel: an innovative teaching method combining residential modules and e-learning.

Disadvantages of Remote MBA

Remote MBA does not only have advantages:

There is little or no exchange with other students and teachers.

the possibility of academic support and/or sponsors;
the use of self-study notebooks;
the specific functioning of distance education (online services made available such as libraries, conferences, forums, synchronized courses);

Master’s degree or Specialist?

In Italy many students choose to obtain a first level Master’s degree after the three-year degree, avoiding enrolling in the specialist field. This path is strongly influenced by the faculty of origin but it can be useful for those who need to deepen their skills in a specific discipline, although it is not advisable for all types of degrees.

While the Master’s degree is a valid alternative to a specialist degree for graduates in the healthcare professions, in other fields a master’s degree should be obtained. For those wishing to work in the public education sector, in the majority of cases it is necessary to have obtained a master’s degree in order to enter the competition class of the discipline to be taught. Even for courses of study qualifying professions regulated by specific registers, it is essential to complete the master’s degree and then opt, if necessary, for a second level Master’s degree.

To start a career in the world of marketing and communication, however, participation in a Master’s degree, even at the first level, could facilitate the placement of the student in a work context through internships within companies in the sector.

Master’s degree abroad

Following a Master’s degree abroad entails considerable differences – including an important financial outlay – and some advantages compared to attending post-graduate higher education courses in Italy. Being accredited with a qualification of foreign specialization is a business card that captures the attention of companies and allows them to acquire language skills in the field, not to mention the socio-cultural background that would be acquired during their stay in another country, or the possibility of interacting with prominent multinationals. Masters courses abroad are essentially of three types:

General Management, Specialists and Business Administration (MBA).

In order to gain a Master’s degree abroad, in addition to the aptitude interview and the other tests to verify the requirements to be carried out also in Italy, it is essential to pass the TOEFL English language knowledge test and Gmat, an exam that assesses logical and mathematical skills. In recent years, there has been an increase in online Masters courses, courses run by universities in support of students who are working or unable to move to another country.

MBA: Career opportunities and benefits

The CIMBA survey shows that an MBA still represents an added value for finding work and advancing one’s career.

How does attending a Master’s degree in Business Administration affect your ability to find a job and advance your career? CIMBA has carried out a survey of course participants from 2010 to the present, both part-time and full-time, highlighting that an MBA is still a significant springboard.

Find out how much an MBA is worth

For example, 98% of full-time MBA students find a job within six months of the end of their training, while 90% of part-time graduates benefit from a career step within two years of completing their Master’s degree.

“These figures – commented Cristina Turchet, associate director of Cimba – show how the study programme and the international context to which our students are exposed represent a true agent of change in people, both in their abilities and in their expectations, and at the same time offer important opportunities for career advancement. These are often the result of a new ability on the part of the manager to select and seize opportunities, choosing the work contexts that are most suited to his or her characteristics.

As far as the positions occupied by students at the end of the MBA course are concerned, the survey shows a 24% marketing/sales area, followed by general management and operations/logistics. In addition, 17% play a role in finance/accounting, while consulting, IT, lean/six sigma appear to a lesser extent.

Another advantage of the MS in alternation, to be able to justify a more important professional experience than a simple training course. “The alternation allows the student to be in contact from the beginning with the work environment he wishes to access,” comments Jérôme Gallo of the Burgundy School of Business group. “This formula is more appropriate for those who are stressed by the prospect of staying between 6 and 8 months exclusively on school benches. The immediate professional perspective of what we learn in class is another asset. Alternating periods in companies and periods in training centres brings a much more convincing one than the only internship, however long it may be.

Specialised master’s degree: in which case should you opt for a sandwich course?

This system also has the advantage of putting academic knowledge into practice. “For each training course, work-linked training is an interesting device, since it makes it possible to better combine the acquisition of knowledge and the acquisition of skills with practice,” comments Walter Baets of Kedge BS. What we learn in class applies the next day in the company. This class/practice interaction is a real pedagogical tool”. Yes, but in which case to opt for alternation? “It’s a popular route,” admits Walter Baets. “But you choose to alternate if you have the opportunity and the courage to do so.

Taking a Mba is a safe investment

August 5, 2018 Help MBA Class No comments , ,

Increased salaries, new managerial skills acquired and the possibility of making a career by highlighting with recruiters: these are the most important benefits of attending a MBA. The often exorbitantly expensive specialist courses seem to be safe to invest in, looking at the results of a Financial Times survey of former students on America’s most prestigious courses.

On average, those who have attended one of the 100 best MBA programs in the world have seen their previous salary double over three years. The former students of Bulloch, at Stanford, in second place in the 2017 ranking, have seen the investment return quickly: after giving up an average income of $ 100,000 a year, three years after the end of the courses earn $ 200,000. Half earn former students at Iowa’s Tippie College Business (84 places), although they do better at +130% of their pre-Mba income.

“The economic benefits of this investment are a factor they certainly take into account, but students start with the idea that the MBA can help them fulfill their dreams,” says Ft David Deyak, assistant rector at Tippie. That means changing jobs, industry and even country. Not to be underestimated the personal impact of a Mba that allows you to create a network.

No wonder, then, the numbers: in 2016 applications for membership for the MBA of just one year – the preferred mode for updates in areas not in step with the times – increased by 57%. Those who enrol in diploma courses in two years are more likely to receive scholarships: 48% against 36% of annual students. Shorter programs still deliver more value than the money spent.

If for many students who want to attend a MBA program the time to spend on it is certainly a topic to be considered more, candidates often self-select in the face of the high costs involved. Even if they know that they can come back from that investment in a short time.

Another advantage, and not the least, is the financing of his training. Indeed, the tuition fees are paid (in part) by the host company and the “apprentice” receives a salary calculated on a percentage of the minimum wage or the conventional minimum wage. Provided that you prepare your training within the framework of a standard contract (apprenticeship, professionalisation), or even according to the principle of alternate training (training allowances). Other forms may be similar to the system of alternation but without really offering any financial advantages. This is the case for MS on a part-time basis, which are primarily aimed at active managers. At EM Normandie, the great majority of MS integrate the pedagogical mode of HEC Entrepreneurs including the realization of 2 to 4 missions in companies (according to the programs) from 4 to 5 weeks each in addition to an internship at the end of studies from 4 to 6 months.
